Referral codes

How a customer gets tied to an affiliate.

Referral codes are how Fuul credits a customer to an affiliate. There are no links, clicks or cookies: a customer is credited through a code.

Creating codes

  • A code has 3 to 32 letters, digits, - or _, and is stored in capitals.
  • A code is unique in your organization, in any case.
  • Every code has an owner, one of your affiliates.

Managing codes

  • Max uses: the code stops working at its limit. You can't set it below its current uses.
  • Last day: the code stops working at the end of that day, UTC.
  • Pause and resume: a paused code doesn't work, but customers it already bound stay bound.

Binding a customer

When a code is used, the customer's email is bound to the code's owner, for life, in your organization.

There are two ways to bind a customer, and both need your developer:

The first code is final

  • A customer can't change or remove their code.
  • A later code on a sale is ignored, and the sale goes to the first code's affiliate. Recent conversions shows both.

When a code is refused

The customer isn't bound if:

  • The code doesn't exist.
  • The code is paused, past its last day or over its max uses.
  • The code's owner isn't active.
  • The customer's email is the owner's own.

Which sales are credited

A sale goes to the affiliate its customer is bound to when Fuul processes it. A sale processed before the customer was bound stays credited to no one, and isn't processed again. That's why a code should reach Fuul before or with the purchase.

Once bound, every later sale from that customer goes to the affiliate, however long after, while your reward keeps paying.

Codes also invite affiliates

An affiliate's code also recruits other affiliates. Your portal's address with ?ref= and their code records them as the inviter. That binds no customer. See Affiliates.
